The Opportunity

A well-established specialty chemicals manufacturer is seeking a Plant Manager to lead its Memphis, TN production site. This is a full P&L leadership role with total site accountability across operations, maintenance, engineering, quality, HR, purchasing, accounting, and laboratory functions. The site has a strong track record in safety, reliability, and customer service. The Plant Manager will protect that record while leading business growth, new program integration, and organizational change.

Site Profile

• Approximately 60 employees.
• Unionized workforce.
• Approximately 8 direct reports.
• Multi-million-dollar annual maintenance, variable cost, and capital budgets under direct control.

Key Responsibilities

Safety, Health & Environment (~20%)
• Establish a ‘zero is possible’ safety culture throughout the plant.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and corporate requirements.
• Personally lead behavior-based safety observations and hold direct reports accountable.
• Drive timely and transparent reporting of incidents and near-misses.

Operations (~50%)
• Ensure safe operating procedures and practices are current and consistently followed.
• Maintain and improve the mechanical integrity of plant assets.
• Deliver production volumes aligned with S&OP demand requirements.
• Ensure training programs support safe and efficient operations across all shifts.

Financial (~10%)
• Prepare and own fixed, variable, and capital budgets.
• Monitor and control spending to meet budget commitments.

Human Resources (~10%)
• Oversee hiring, promotion, staffing, and compensation decisions.
• Maintain open communication and a positive working environment across all levels.

External Relations & Development (~10%)
• Represent the site with local authorities and the Community Advisory Panel.
• Build strong relationships with plant personnel.
• Coach and develop individual and team performance.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 15+ years of progressive manufacturing experience spanning plant operations, process design, and engineering.
• Leadership experience in specialty chemicals manufacturing.
• MUST have experience in H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) or other peroxide production.
• Demonstrated success leading continuous improvement initiatives.
• Working knowledge of current safety and environmental regulations.
• Proficiency with SAP or comparable ERP systems, accounting systems, and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in both large and small integrated process manufacturing environments.
• Lean or Six Sigma certification.
• Experience leading a unionized workforce.
