Job Summary

The Field Service Technician provides professional installation, service, and technical support for Packaging and Automation customers. This role coordinates equipment installation, system startup, repairs, preventative maintenance, phone and onsite support, and customer training.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct customer pre-consultation, site-readiness preparation, and startup monitoring.
• Participate in calls with Sales, Project Management, and customers to prepare for installations.
• Coordinate equipment and system installations and ensure proper operation.
• Calibrate HMIs, meters, timers, temperature settings, and seal times as required.
• Train operators and maintenance personnel.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Provide phone and onsite customer support.
• Diagnose operating errors and take corrective action.
• Perform inspections and advise customers on minimizing downtime.
• Complete service reports and follow through on next steps.
• Maintain knowledge of product functions and applications.
• Follow safety rules and properly maintain tools and supplies.
• Assist with parts and service-tool inventory control.
• Assist Sales with job quoting when requested.
• Assist with instructional videos and machinery documentation.
• Assist and train other team members as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, schematics, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to understand mechanical and electrical drawing packages.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and trace electrical circuits.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, controls, and instrumentation issues.
• Ability to replace defective switches, pumps, motors, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, control boards, elements, and wiring.
• Strong customer-service, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong time-management and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Valid passport or ability to obtain one required.

Travel Requirements

This position requires extensive travel to customer locations. Most trips are scheduled in advance, but urgent customer-support needs may require next-flight-out travel. During November and December, a Support Team member is on call 12 hours per day, 7 days per week, with responsibility rotated among staff.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience preferred.
• 3–5 years of related technical experience preferred.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear as required.
• Ability to use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and controls.
• Ability to sit for long periods while traveling by airplane or automobile.
• Manual dexterity required.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
