Position Overview
A major corporation in the greater Knoxville, Tennessee area is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support its Trucking / Transportation division. The HR Manager will work closely with the corporate leadership team and play a key role in ensuring compliance, recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, retention, employee development, and training.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, professional HR certification such as PHR or SPHR, and proven Human Resources experience within the trucking, transportation, logistics, or related industry. Strong knowledge of FMCSA compliance and Driver Qualification (DQ) files is required.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage and coordinate driver background checks in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate pre-employment medical screenings and ensure required documentation is completed.
• Coordinate DOT physicals and support compliance with applicable transportation regulations.
• Ensure Driver Qualification files are complete, accurate, current, and maintained in compliance with FMCSA requirements.
• Support and manage recruiting activities for professional drivers and transportation personnel.
• Participate heavily in interviewing, candidate evaluation, selection, hiring, and onboarding of new drivers.
• Develop and maintain effective employee onboarding processes.
• Administer and maintain employee benefit programs.
• Support the development and implementation of new employee programs focused on retention and engagement.
• Develop initiatives that promote employee development, career growth, and professional training.
• Partner with corporate leadership to support workforce planning and HR strategy.
• Provide guidance on HR policies, employee relations, compliance, and workforce matters.
• Maintain accurate HR records and ensure appropriate documentation practices.
• Support employee training initiatives and help identify opportunities for workforce development.
• Promote a positive employee experience and contribute to a strong company culture.
• Ensure HR practices remain aligned with applicable federal, state, and transportation industry requirements.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Previous Human Resources experience in the trucking, transportation, logistics, or related industry required.
• Experience supporting HR functions within a professional truck driving or transportation environment strongly preferred.
• PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
• Required experience with FMCSA compliance requirements.
• Required experience managing and maintaining Driver Qualification (DQ) files.
• Knowledge of driver background checks, pre-employment medical screenings, and DOT physical requirements.
• Experience with driver recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
• Strong understanding of employee benefits administration.
• Experience developing employee retention, development, and training programs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with corporate leadership and operational teams.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle confidential employee and HR information professionally.
