Position Overview
A privately owned medical device manufacturer in East Tennessee is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager (Electrical) to lead a 12-person multidisciplinary engineering team consisting of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. The organization has a strong reputation in the medical device industry and a culture focused on engineering excellence, innovation, collaboration, and growth.
The Senior Engineering Manager will lead the development of highly complex electro-mechanical medical devices with a strong emphasis on electrical engineering and advanced electronics. This position will provide engineering leadership across product design, development, testing, safety compliance, manufacturing support, and production of high-technology medical systems.
The ideal candidate will combine deep electrical engineering expertise with proven medical device product development and leadership experience. This is primarily a high-level leadership role, with occasional deeper technical involvement in critical projects and complex engineering challenges.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage a 12-person multidisciplinary engineering team of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
• Provide technical and organizational leadership for complex electro-mechanical medical device development.
• Lead engineering activities throughout the product development lifecycle from concept and design through testing, validation, production, and continuous improvement.
• Support development, testing, safety compliance, and production of electromechanical systems for medical applications.
• Provide high-level technical direction for electrical and electronic system architecture and product design.
• Oversee development of advanced electrical systems involving high-power RF amplifiers, high-voltage power supplies, and high-current power supplies.
• Ensure engineering designs meet applicable medical device safety, quality, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with customers to understand requirements and develop innovative medical device solutions.
• Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and other internal teams.
• Provide technical leadership during design reviews, product development, testing, troubleshooting, and production transitions.
• Support project planning, resource allocation, technical prioritization, and engineering execution.
• Identify and resolve complex technical challenges while maintaining project schedules and product development objectives.
• Mentor, coach, and develop engineering talent to strengthen technical capabilities and leadership depth.
• Build a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Provide senior-level engineering guidance in a small, high-impact organization with minimal bureaucracy.
• Occasionally engage in detailed technical reviews or deeper project-level problem solving when required.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
• Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE), required.
• 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in the medical device industry.
• Strong background in medical device design and development with a focus on electronics.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
• Demonstrated experience developing complex electromechanical systems.
• Strong technical understanding of advanced electrical and electronic systems.
• Experience with high-power RF amplifiers.
• Experience with high-voltage and high-current power supply design or development.
• Experience supporting product development, testing, safety compliance, and production.
